Richard Branson, you’ve stolen my heart… #VirginAmerica (at San Francisco International Airport (SFO))
Headed home from a @dmabbott super lecture. Still no sign of Gene Hackman, inspirational sports speeches, or slow clap standing ovations… (at Indianapolis International Airport (IND))
Picture of me in this weeks edition of the @dallasobserver. Adding it to the collection 😁 #indexfest #dallasobserver #samlao
I’ve lived in Dallas my entire life. I’ve visited many places. Many places that I’ve loved but it’s never long before I begin to miss my city, my home.
Upon leaving high school (Arts Magnet in Dallas) when I listened to my friends talk about leaving to go to New York or LA to pursue their careers, I vowed, that I would do everything in my power to stay here and make a culture so those that came after me wouldn’t feel they HAD to go to NY or LA to have a career in the arts.
Now some 14 years later, while I haven’t incited the change I’ve wanted to see completely, I’m seeing this city grow into it’s own artistic culture, and I take pride in knowing, I’ve had a hand in that.
Through the trials and tribulations of wondering/fantasizing about life in NY or LA and how I would have been “on by now if I were there”, something incredible happens here in Dallas that validates my decision to stay almost a decade and a half ago.
This is one such instance.
Sparing you the details of how it came to be, I will share this project that I’m really excited to have been asked to be a part of.
If you’ve been anywhere around the city for the last 8 months or so you’ve seen the large “B__G” at iconic Dallas locations. The entire “Big Things Happen Here" campaign was geared towards the people of Dallas and how we are all part of what makes this city great.
This campaign is part of VisitDallas.com, the city’s official site. A subsection of this campaign is to feature “Influencers” within the community. Long story short, I was chosen as the photographer for the first round of “Influencers”, and my photos are featured on the site!!!
Makes me proud to call myself a “Dallasite” and lets me know people are paying attention to all my hard work!!
A very happy birthday to my little girl who is officially a teenager today. Not sure where the time has gone. She’s been my greatest accomplishment, my best pal, and one of the most important role models in my life. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this smart, funny and talented young woman… #ThrowbackThursday
